A.Dick is back to acting like one

I was going to make some topical observations on Andy Dick's recent arrest and correlate it to his desire to always be on (whether video cameras are around or not) and his weak attempts to push the boundaries of comedy. But then I realize that I would be wasting my time pointing out the obvious.

He is now the poster child for former TV stars who addicted to their own celebrity niche. And while he's pissed off (and literally pissed on) people in his downward spiraling career, he's plummeted past his old co-star Kathy Griffin to the F'Off-List. Hell, look at his mug shot and try to tell me with a straight face that he's starting to look more like that crazy old man lying on the side of the street waiting for his next fix of model airplane glue than the steady working actor and touring comedian.

To me, it's truly sad. You see, some people know when the joke stops becoming funny. I wonder if someday Dick realizes that he has become that joke.

Happy Anniversary to this here blog plus some News & Comment

Here's to the first year of Tripping the Life Fanatic. Yeah, there have been some good times but there was a bit of an abandonment issue with me and the blog near the end of 2007 but I think that those have been resolved (albeit from an unexpected Super Bowl loss).

This upcoming year, there will be a continued dedication to more quality content including the return of the Fanatical Reviews and possibly (make that definitely) an announcement of where I will be writing next at a place that you may or may not expect.

Now, for the news and comment where breaking up is the new hook-up:

• Jimah (or Sarmy depending on your point of view) are splitsville! The caustic couple have called it quits after five years. How can that be? They were supposed to be the Newman/Woodward of our generation. Maybe Silverman saw the writing on the wall (Leno to ABC; Kimmel bumped back to 1230 EST or later) and decided she didn't want to be attached to a plumeting star.
• Billy Packer and CBS are done after 34 years and I cannot shout loud enough from the tallest mountain top - FINALLY!! This guy has an ego the size of Montana and the appeal of a sewer shark. I hated hearing his foul voice during the first week of April when the last three games of College Basketball season were playing. His pompous and monotone delivery mixed with his agenda against Big Ten Basketball made me wish for Pro-ACC Dickie V. Speaking of the always on Vitale, you should be next, sir. Don't buy that 2-year subscription to the Mag just yet.

The Friday Favorite - "Hell Yeah" by Rev Theory

Former Gator Dupay arrested with rape and kidnapping

It appears that trouble just seems to follow one Teddy Dupay. First, it was the criminal assault - oops, sorry, the Cobra Kai-style leg sweep of Mateen Cleaves during the 2000 NCAA Championships. Then, it was the quick dismissal of Dupay from the U of F basketball team the very next year due to possible gambling activities. And now, the former "chippy sparkplug"-labelled point guard has been charged with felony rape, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping in the state of Utah.

Details currently are one-sided due to Dupay's lack of counsel at the time of arrest; although, he did admit in court that he and the victim (a former girlfriend of two years) got a little rough. But yet from the info obtained by the investigators attached to the case, the victim had two fractured ribs, bruises on her arm, shoulder and thigh, a swollen left eye and scratches on her back due to Dupay hitting and kicking her prior to the rape.

But there is one person who may still be on this guy's side - his former coach. Here's a telling quote from Billy Donovan, speaking at the time of Dupay's dismissal from the team back in 2001:

"I love Teddy," Donovan said. "There are people who do things wrong, but I will stand by him the rest of his life. I think he knows in his heart that I'm behind him. I'll miss not having him around, but our relationship will go on for a long, long time."

I wonder if Donovan would like to take those words back just like he did when he backed out of the Orlando job.

The Rockin' Soul Show will not be totally heard?

For those of you out there in Radioland who are outside the Ocean City, MD broadcasting area may have found out yesterday, Don Geronimo's Rockin' Soul Show was not streaming after the first 15-20 minutes due to legal complications with the deejay's non-compete clause in his old contract with Infinity/CBS Radio.

Officially, there is no press release or even an acknowledgement concerning this censorship from Geronimo, WOCM or CBS Radio but I did find a short snipet on a forum dedicated to Don and Mike by a poster claiming to be the webmaster of Irieradio.com:

Just a quick note to let everyone know we WILL NOT be Broadcasting Don Geronimo on the Web at this time. We will however start broadcasting the music this week. You will not be able to hear the Radio God's voice. I do not have details so please don't ask for them.

I hope that this crap will be cleared up in the very near future since from what I've heard, this show is something that is sorely missing from today's airwaves - a show with just great songs and and a DJ who knows how to pick the right ones to play.

Hulk versus Wolverine trailer and Marvel Direct-To-DVD Announcement

Marvel is trying their best to keep the good vibe momentum from Iron Man (and to a lesser degree the new Hulk movie) by knocking out Direct-to-DVD animation movies like there is no tomorrow. And according to its released timetable (posted here), here is the latest info on the Hulk Vs. DVD.

Marvel.com has leaked out that Hulk Vs. DVD actually contains two movies - the undercard of Hulk versus Thor and the Main Event (and the one that will turn comic geeks to a puddle of mush) Hulk versus Wolverine. Also, Marvel.com has a quick trailer for the Banner versus Logan match.

The way I see it, this news is a strange mixture of odd pairings and possible pitfalls if done wrong. I'm not quite the comics historian but I don't really remember the Hulk versus Thor fight. I'm not saying that it won't be a good tale but the movie itself is going to greatly overshadowed by the comic anticipation that is Hulk vs. Wolvie.

As for the done wrong part, here's where I might be in the minority. I like my superheroes relatively proportionate. but if you look at the screencap above, it is simply not the case. Hulk has a huge body but has a head that resembles the head-shunked one from Beetlejuice. And what happened to Wolverine's nose? It's about the size of a fingernail. Maybe I am nitpicking but I'm not ready to get in line to buy this one like I am for the new Batman: Gotham Knight 2-disc'r.

Marvel's Super Hero Squad rights snagged by THQ

Here's a case where I missed the news on this latest license acquisition by THQ due to the fact that I was actually playing with the source materials - with my son and daughter obviously (not that there is anything wrong with adults playing with them by themselves). My son is real excited for the new series and subsequent video game (Wii will be a must for this demo) but how do you explain to a five year old why it won't be until the fall of 09 before he get to see it?

Web 411 - The Mike O'Meara Show and Don Geronimo

As tough as it sounds, we live in a world where Mike O'Meara is hosting a talk show and Don Geronimo is spinning the platters that matter on a Top 40-ish show on separate stations on the radio dial. Luckily for the fans of the Radio Gods, their respective shows are back-to-back (Don from 1 to 3 PM EST and Mike from 3 to 7PM EST). And as different are the shows, so are their websites.

The URL for The Mike O'Meara Show is http://mikeomearashow.com/ which redirects to the corporate WJFK website (http://www.wjfk.com/pages/2158873.php). His page has the same formats as the other JFK air staff (live stream, photos, contests, podcasts, etc). However, the "forum" is one in name only; more like a bulletin board. Overall, it's a decent site with easily accessible content without too much digging. Here's a screenshot of the page:



Doni G's new employer, WOCM 98.1 in Ocean City, Maryland, has a website (http://www.irieradio.com/) that is somewhat lacking the polish and usual applets that JFK's site has but it does have an interesting feature that JFK does not. While there is not a complete repository for the station's podcasts (outside of the morning and Live evening shows) and the navigation tabs are somewhat weak, WOCM does offer a video stream of the jocks doing their work behind the boards. Although emails about further info on this and podcast availability for Don Geronimo's show were not returned, it will be interesting to see how long the home page will be down if the demand for both streams overwhelms the OCN's servers. With those questions unanswered and since there is no main site for Geronimo, the site gets an incomplete. Here's a screenshot of WOCM:



Right now, Mike's site is the better of the two but if the streams and podcast of Don's show are available at the OCM website, the gap between the two will definitely get closer.

Favre itching to return; Rodgers placed on postal watch

With Aaron Rodgers performing well in the offseason, Brett Favre has let it be known that he is on the verge of coming back to the playing field according the self-described Worldwide Leader. This is a classic narcissistic move by the future Hall of Famer and one that appears to further perpetuate an almost abusive relationship with the current starting QB of the Packers as he once again tries to prolong Rodgers' maturation into a viable starter in the NFL.

From the article, if Favre isn't received with open arms (and a starting spot on the team), he will probably force Green Bay to release him from the remaining two years of his contract and allow him to field offers from other teams. At this point, who wouldn't consider this annual retirement waffling by Favre an act of mental cruelty not only to Rodgers but to the faithful Cheeseheads themselves? Closure is needed by all involved but this interruption by Favre in an effort to soothe his "itch" will most certainly result in a rash decision by the Pack that could cost them a chance at the playoffs.

RIP Michael Turner (1971-2008)

It was announced over the weekend that artist Michael Turner, creator of such works as Fathom (pictured above) and founder of the publishing company Aspen MLT Inc, passed away from complications due to health complications. Here is the announcement that was posted on the Aspen website by EIC Vince Hernandez:

Unfortunately it's with great sadness that I must inform everyone that Michael Turner tragically passed away last night, June 27th at approximately 10:42 pm in Santa Monica, Ca. Turner had been dealing with recent health complications arisen in the past few weeks. More details concerning Turner's passing, and services, will be given shortly.

This is truly sad news since the guy could draw superheroes like no one's business. But his tenacity and dedication to his own vision will be what makes his legacy at Aspen MLT last. CBR's Jonah Weiland posted a great In Memoriam story of Turner which gives not only the artist's history but a glimpse into his battles with cancer as well. Hernandez also provided a heartfelt send-off to his friend and business partner. If you don't tear up after reading it, you have no heart.

A quick follow-up on the Geronimo comeback

Well, yesterday's news seems to be official as one more media outlet has confirmed the return of radio legend Don Geronimo. Here are a couple quick quotes from Tuesday's Delaware Online news article on Geronimo's quitting his retirement so he can come back to the national airwaves (albeit through a station in Ocean City, MD):

The radio personality and former co-host of the nationally syndicated “Don & Mike Show” will return to his record-spinning roots with Ocean City’s 98.1 WOCM-FM, according to station manager and morning show host David “Bulldog” Rothner.

“I saw some article that he was moving in this direction,” Bulldog said. “What he said was, he loves radio — the guy’s passionate about radio — but he’s sick and tired of the corporate (nonsense). I read the article, and the only thing missing from what he was looking to do was our call letters, man.

“We have an independent radio station that will allow him to do stuff without a bunch of corporate red tape watching over him. I called him up, and I said, let’s see if we can make something work out. So when we got together, we talked about this thing, and it was a perfect fit.”

Bulldog said “Don Geronimo’s Rockin’ Soul Show” will run 1-3 p.m. weekdays on WOCM, starting July 7....“He’ll bring in his own music, stuff that fits in with our station,” Bulldog said. “He can bring his CD players in, play some good music and go back to the way it used to be — that’s what he likes about it. The guy’s got 35 years of radio experience. He can certainly bring something to the station.”

Very interesting news from yesterday (from DCRTV.com, whose sole contributor has been inching towards being thisclose to the second coming of Carl R. Grossman with his recent Doni G sightings):

Geronimo To Do OC Radio Gig -6/24 - First on DCRTV. Starting 7/7, former WJFK-FM afternooner Don Geronimo (right) will be working for eclectic rocker WOCM (98.1 FM), Ocean 98, in Ocean City each weekday from 1 PM to 3 PM doing "an up-tempo show" with "hit music that doesn't suck" from the 1970s and 1980s. There'll be jingles and he'll "talk up" the records. Geronimo, a three-decade radio vet who retired as half of "The Don And Mike Show" in April, has been spending the time since at his Ocean City beachfront condo, we hear. Geronimo guested this morning on WOCM's "Bulldog In The Morning Show" to discuss his future radio plans. The audio of that interview is available via wocmdg.mp3. When Geronimo left CBS-owned WJFK-FM, he was told that his non-compete contract allows him to work in markets where there are no CBS radio stations, a la Ocean City. Geronimo, a former "top 40" DJ at WPGC, is a big fan of classic pop tunes.....

To hear the words come from the man's mouth could not bring a bigger smile to my face. I've been living off of the D&M Time Mahcheen and American Top 40 reruns ever since I heard that Don was retiring. To hear that Geronimo will be bringing back the same style and patter that made him a DJ Legend is like getting Christmas in July. To this listener, July 7th can't make it here fast enough.

George Carlin take the final bow

A truly sad morning as word was confirmed that George Carlin, one fo the true kings of stand-up comedy, passed away last night at the age of 71. His HBO concerts are a thing of legends and his wit and timeless, perverted (in the truest sense of the word) observational humor will never be matched. And what is somewhat ironic is that he was going to be honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor; probably for saying those seven words that you can't never say on TV - many times. The laughter has definitely left the room today.

Sorry for the late post and somewhat dated news but work had a major power outage for the majority of my workday which means no access to the Internets. So, please sit back and enjoy this edition of Ripped from KFR...

Dancing with the Stars too high-brow for you? Celebrity Circus seems too stuffy for your tastes? Do you miss the shock and awe of Celebrity Boxing mixed with the hilarity of MTV’s Tough Enough? Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, CMT has the cure for your ills this fall with the announcement of Celebrity Championship Wrestling.

Reality D-listers Dennis Rodman, Dustin Diamond, Danny Bonaduce, Todd Bridges, Nikki Ziering, Tiffany, and queen reality show whore Trishelle Cannatella all return to the glow of the small screen for the lure of more money and ever-diminishing dignity. Other cast members include Butterbean, Jackie Stallone’s other kid and Bewitched’s Tabitha Stephens.

The show uses the ever-popular 3 judges scoring format with Hulk Hogan, Jimmy “The Mouth of the South” Hart and Eric Bischoff in those roles with Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake and Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs coaching up the wrestling dummies “celebrities”. And as much as I bad-mouth this show, I have a feeling that a season pass will find its way to the old TiVo. I blame it on brainwashing here in the Redneck Riviera.

The Middleman - Watch It Before It On TV Legally

Just came across this link and thought that I'd pass it along; especially since it is comics-related. The Middleman, originally a comic from indie label Viper Comics, is now an ABC Family series premiering tonight at 8 PM EST. However, iTunes has it available for download for free today before the show even airs.

I have downloaded the show but due to impatient kids, I haven't had a chance to spec it out (although from here, the leading actress could be Liv Tyler's illegitimate Hispanic sister) so there is no short review/preview for you to chew on. But from what the setup looks like, think of Men In Black but made for TV. There's no way Jack Bauer would've shot 6 for 19 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals

How did a 21-point first quarter lead turn into a six-point loss for the Purple and Gold? Simply put - it wasn't in the numbers for the player formerly known as Black Mamba.

Kobe Bryant was in the role of drive and dish man; trying to get his teammates behind him and they were hitting their shots which got them the healthy lead midway through the third quarter. However, Kobe was off track points-wise and never found his stroke, which he needed in the worse way when the Celts decided to "compete" at both ends of the floor.

After this game, Paul Pierce should switch jersey numbers with Mr. Bryant with his Jack Bauer-esque lockdown on the league MVP as the telling excerpt from Marc Stein's Game Four piece on the Worldwide Leader's website details below:

It's the unavoidable conclusion when a 24-point lead -- at home -- isn't enough for No. 24.

The 24th Finals game of Kobe Bryant's career had the Celtics trailing by 20 points halfway through the third quarter, unable until 4:07 remained in the game to snatch their first lead and then showing their steel from there by refusing to give it back ... all while Bryant could finish with only a measly 17 points on 6-for-19 shooting.

The Celtics are one game away from putting the 17th Banner hanging from the rafters this fall. The Lakers may have the colors of royalty but on Sunday, it's more than likely that it will be the Celtics who will be coronated; much to the chagrin of the anti-Jordan in LA.

Radio Rewind - Last Hour of 105.1 WAVA (Top 40, Washington DC)

Due to the slow death of commercial terrestrial radio, I've been looking for some classic digital bits from my youth on the Internets and found this wonderful gem. The last hour of 105.1 WAVA (also known as All Hits 105 and Power 105) does its best to gather all of the events, jingles and most notably the deejays of the station starting when it changed formats from Album Oriented Rock (AOR) to Contemporary Hits Radio (CHR) or Top 40 in 1983 until its last breath on Febraury 12, 1992.

Deejays highlighted were TK Tom Kent, Flash Phillips (aka Gene "Bean" Baxter), Capt. Dave Fogel, Charlie and Harrigan, and the hour's true centerpiece, Don Geronimo and Mike O'Meara otherwise known as "The Don and Mike Show".

If you're an old guy like me and love the medium, this might be a breath of fresh air. However, if you're under 30 or hate Top 40, I truly feel sorry for you.

Here are some semi-random thoughts before Game 3 tips out in LaLa Land:

• ESPN's Stu Scott is basically one conversion to Judaism away from singing Candy Man in some sort of Rat Pack tribute act in a show off of the main Vegas strip.
• The real crime is not that the new Coldplay song "Viva La Vida" sounds like a U2 rip-off, it's that Apple hammered that fact home with it's new commercial.
• Home cooking may not help the Lakers if they can't seem to get more aggresive in order to get to the fouls line (something that Kobe didn't do that much in the last two series).
• One full spin of Man Raze's CD Surreal and you realize that Phil Collen has more to do with of the success of Def Leppard vocally than you may thought before you listened.

Then compare and contrast the hyperbole from LA Times' Bill Plaschke (a hack living on borrowed time) and ESPN's Chris Sheridan. So, let me get this straight - either Pierce is an Oscar-winning actor in faking his knee injury or that he'll need a leg transplant during the layoff in order to play on Sunday. It's amazing that these two people were looking at the same person. I guess in a world where sports journalism and tabloid reporting are becoming more and more similar, any angle is a good one; especially when you're the first one to report it.

Bob Ryan goes after ESPN's Sports Guy

It appears that Bob Ryan has something against the Worldwide Leader's biggest web page producer. In yesterday's blog post on The Boston Globe's website by Mr. Ryan, the heralded columnist goes right after Bill Simmons (albeit without naming him specifically) concerning the history of the Celts/Lakers rivalry. Ryan goes so far as to try to discount Simmons by calling him a "false prophet". He also stated that Simmons failed do his homework in regards to Simmons' recent magazine column.

However, I think that Ryan's growing dislike for Simmons may have blinded his judgment as he failed to recognize the fact that Simmons was going for the absurd angle on the argument and trying his best to be like the acting "editor-in-chief" Ocho Cinco aka Chad Johnson. But even though Ryan may have been wrong in calling out Simmons on this one doesn't make him any less right on his assessment of the over-hyped Sports Guy.

Where I'm at and what it means to TTLF..

I'll try to make this as short as possible. So, bear with me...

For the last couple of months, I've been posting here steadily with a veritable plethora of pop-culture minutiae that I liked and when I was really on my game, I'd drop an occasional review into the mix. But the accumulation of the blogger naysayers (Bissinger being the poster boy for that movement) and the whole hatred coverage behind the unoriginal titled "Spygate" (a wound from those jackal journalists that really has never fully healed) was making me feel like I was being battered around like James Thompson's cauliflower ear. My level of desire to write anything - much less a blog - was way below E and trying to write at that point was doing both the reader (however few they're are) and myself a disservice.

So, until I fully recharge, the posts here will be somewhere in between daily and weekly. Hope that those of you who read my incoherent babbling can understand.

26 ABC Counts Might Have Knocked Out O'Meara's

The details of Mike O'Meara's restaurant closing are coming to light through the mainstream media. It appears that the Virginia Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control, or as we laymen would say - the Virginia ABC, levied 26 fines against the Manassas eatery from August 2006 to April 2007 totalling approximately $26,000 according to InsideNoVa.com.

The laundry list of charges and violations included:

• 7 violations for allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages by a person the licensee knew or had reason to believe was intoxicated
• 1 violation where the licensee enticed, urged or entreated patrons to purchase alcoholic beverages in violation of state law
• 7 counts of making gifts of alcoholic beverages in violation of Virginia law
• 8 counts of holding happy hour between 9 PM and 2 AM
• 2 charges of allowing people who the licensee knew or had reason to believe were intoxicated to loiter on the premises
• 1 charge of making gifts of alcoholic beverages in violation of Virginia law was dismissed

However, since O'Meara's has closed its doors and surrendered its license in April of this year, these charges will essentially be dismissed.

Your Random Facts for May 13

Still wondering what would make Katie Holmes to butcher her hair other than being denied her postpartum meds by her husband/handler Tom Cruise, here are today's random facts:

• The Jekyll/Hyde post-season continues for the Celts as they let a win slip through their fingers last night against the Cavs. So, now it's a best of three against King James and his court of jum-shooting jesters. My money's still on the green but some better looks on offense and better bench play needs to be there in all three games for a chance to win (unlike last night). The one good thing is Mama James will not be on the floor in Beantown.
• Are you ready for an updated Electric Company? Sesame Workshop does and if they can get young cats like Morgan Freeman back in the day, so am I.
• Part-time lead singer and full-time addict Scott Weiland went to jail to serve his 8-day stint for the DUI from last November yesterday. It will be interesting how he get out in time to play the Rock the Range fest on Saturday. but knowing how things work in La La land, he'll get some sort of work release.

The 48-hour film project - "Cosmic Snooze"

This late post is due to yours truly being snagged for the time honored tradition handed down from the Grecians days, otherwise known as jury duty. So, rather than fill your head with needless old news, here's an interesting short submitted to The 48-Hour Film Project. It was created by The Kim Jong Thrill and titled Cosmic Snooze. Other than it being oddly funny, I'm promoting this film because of another old handed-down practice - nepotism - as my brother-in-law is prominently featured. Michael George Trial gets the "Dateline" treatment

In case you missed it last night, the Michael George murder trial was the subject of a Dateline piece called (very unoriginal, I might add) The Comic Book Murder. The trial was covered here from the date of arrest to the trial's verdict but the rehash of the events leading up to the end was still a decent watch albeit somewhat sad to see how divided the families involved really are. The only problem that I have with correspondent Dennis Murphy's piece was the introductory sentence:

In the front of the mom-and-pop comic book shop were bins of the fantasies: Spidey, Hulk and X-Men.

Why does every non-comic book reader refer to the medium as fantasies? I know that it was to setup the grizzly details in the back of the store but he could've taken a better tact than that. Just like movies, TV and other entertainment mediums, comic books offer more than just fantasies. Hey, Murphy, get out and live in the real world a little. The Friday Favorite - Testament "Practice What You Preach"

I'm not sure why this band didn't get the same adulation that their fellow San Fran Speed Metal residents Metallica did but this song, the title track actually, shows that they were every bit as good as Lars, Kirk, James and Cliff (or Jason depending on when you followed them).

The sound on this vid really is pitiful so I highly recommend getting this CD or one of their "Greatest Hits", Signs of Chaos or The Very Best of Testament. They are that good; again as this video, crappy sound and all, an attest.

"Wolverine & The X-Men" trailer online - Now without zero Foo

Here's the updated and "official" trailer for the new animated Wolverine & the X-Men series. There are a couple new scenes with more fanboy eye candy (meaning the introduction of more superheroes) but it still looks off to me. Maybe it's the fact that Logan is front and center on a team where he's more of an hot-headed anti-hero. Or maybe it's the fact that Professor X and Jean Grey are taken out of the series entirely. Or maybe, just maybe, it's the fact that Cyclops wears a friggin bolero jacket and looks awful. Oh well, at least the trailer gets rid of the Foo Fighters song that the original trailer obviously did not get approval for and was not really appropriate in the first place.

Making more to do about nothing than the Spygate controversy, here are your random facts for today:

• Nice to see that Matt "The Weasel" Walsh has remained true to form. As I may have said before, he's just like the little kid that you used to remember from grade school - would say he could do anything but could never back it up. It's too bad that some people (The Worldwide Leader's Mike Fish, for example) have taken the lack of juicy material against the Patriots as a way to still attack the New England organization. As a journalist, he should stay more objective, like me. Yeah, bad example, I guess.
• I still don't understand why people want to "ban" books like And Tango Make Three, a book about two penguins and a new baby which critics considered endorsing a gay lifestyle. To me, if you don't like the subject matter, don't friggin' read it. the act of banning is more harmful than any book that coudl be created.
• Amy Winehouse is the female version of Scott Weiland.

How To Get Free MP3s Part 1: "Falling Away" - Sprite Commercial

If you have been watching the NBA playoffs as feverishly as I have, the generous people at TNT have been bombarding you with this Sprite commercial about the local park kids jumping into the court which magically turns into a pool. The ending image is the one shown above.

The snipet of the song that is played during this commercial is very hooky and I was curious in finding the song and the person/group who played it. After a quick 2 minutes of googling, I found this post from Duncan's TV Ad Land dated November 2005 which not only detailed the name (Falling Away) and origins of the song (it was made by a sound house), but listed the lyrics to the song, a link to a Quicktime version of the commercial and a detailed list to get the free MP3 of the song.

The one problem - you have to go through about 100+ useless posts from idiots. And since this blog is not only a wealth of entertainment value but also a public service forum, here's the list to score the free swag:

The Other Side of Harvey Dent from "The Dark Knight"

Yes, this is the other side of scarred District Attorney Harvey Dent, otherwise known as Two Face from this summer's The Dark Knight movie. As you can see, this is definitely not your older brother's (or Joel Schumaker's) version from 12 years ago. But as is the case with much of Christopher Nolan's take on DC's Batmythos, the more realistic, the better.

The image above was posted originally on the supreme comic industry gossip site, Lying In the Gutters, but said image was removed by the columnist (Rich Johnson) due to a request by Warner Brothers. Fortunately, I found this image on a Batman board (1966 Batman Board).

But is everything as it seems? It may not be, according to Batman-On-Film.com:

It's real, however it's one of the very early concept designs (remember what I reported to you regarding the look of The Joker before that was public knowledge? This image of Two Face is from around the same period of early design tests). Just like the early concept design of The Joker largely informed the final look, it wasn't dead on (i.e. They decided to retain the purple suit rather than the raggedy, pieced together costume, etc), but certain elements carried through to the final screen version (The “Cut Smile“).

In the case of this particular design, it's closer to what you'll see than that early Joker design was, but it's not a good representation of what it looks like on camera (and, as I alluded to above, it's not *exactly* what the screen look is). It's not really what you'll see in the movie, but the general idea is still very much intact.

I don't mean to be overly cryptic, but I know that a lot of people are trying to retain the surprise of the Two-Face look, and this concept art doesn't properly represent what Aaron looks like onscreen.”

My take? I'm a fan of Christopher Nolan in general and of Batman Begins in particular and I like the look as it is. It stays true to the overall tone of Batman Begins without going all the way into the horror disfigurement. And let's be honest - when someone, even a well-to-do District Attorney, get acid thrown in the face, that person will not walk away looking like Tommy Lee Jones with green skin on one side of their face.

The Fanatical Review - "Iron Man (2008)"

In case you just woken up from a year long slumber, Paramount Pictures' tentpole summer live-action superhero movie, otherwise known as Iron Man, was released late Thursday night. The barometer on the buzz for this movie was set pretty high when there was a small preview of the film shown during the Iron Man panel at the 2007 San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) and has steadily rose with every new glimpse of the completed film.

But Internet buzz does not always translate into huge box office dollars (Snakes on a Plane, anyone?) or well-reviewed films; especially with the fans. So, the real question is - Does Iron Man bring the goods?

In a resound two words - Hell Yeah! Not only does the script for the theatrical version of Iron Man remains true to its comic book heritage, the movie also brings the sense of humor, adventure and limitless possibilities that only could only be done in a four-color world where a multi-billionaire inventor/industrialist can change his personal ideology practically on a dime and dress up in his creation to save the world.

One nitpick that should be noted is that the end of the conflict between Iron Man and Iron Monger seemed rather rushed and didn't fit with the overall tone of the movie. But it is understood since the movie ran over two hours and the extended fight sequence will probably find life in the DVD release of the movie.

On the acting side, Robert Downey Jr thoroughly placed his stamp on Tony Stark by bringing both the hard-partying, trust-fund-baby lifestyle and the grief-stricken, responsible man-of-action sides of Tony Stark to life. His sardonic delivery gives a good bite to Stark's sarcastic quips. It is just hard to imagine this is the same actor that has walked through so many roles some as recent as The Shaggy Dog.

And while the movie is about one man's transformation from an iron hearted man into a true iron man, he does not go it alone. Jeff Bridges does a masterful job as Stark Industries partner and "concerned" father-ish figure Obadiah Stane. Gwyneth Paltrow infuses the character of Pepper Potts with a sense of feminine strength in between all of the testosterone. If there was one nebbish part, it was the role of Jim Rhodes played by Terrence Howard who's controlled performance didn't jibe with the character from the comic books. But Rhodey's more looser personality might be more on display on Iron Man 2.

And if Downey's performance is the #1 reason to see the movie, the CGI FX should be #1a. To see Iron Man in all of his suit development stages from his hand-made original armor to his final Mark III red and gold one was a sight for more than just the eye. The flight and fight sequences were excellent and certainly benefit from the advancements made in digital modeling technology that were lacking in films like Daredevil.

Overall, this movie may not be on the same level of fan frenzy as other Marvel icons such as Spider-Man or Wolverine. But this movie forces not only non-comic book readers but fanboys/fangirls alike to see Iron Man for what he is - the spirit of inventing and adventure that few comic book heroes can do. And this movie does it well.

1. Friday's predictions went 0 fer 2 with the Celts taking all seven games to beat the Hawks and Iron Man not quite doing as well as I thought but the film might still make it to #1 all-time for the first week of May if the weekend figures are recalculated according to Variety.
2. Best Quote of all time - "It's kind of freaky knowing you're diving into somebody's grandpa," said center fielder Coco Crisp (from The Boston Globe's article on fans who want their ashes spread at Fenway with the main subject sharing a first name with yours truly.)

1. O'Meara's Restaurant, aka Hank's Lookaround Cafe, has closed its doors according to DCRTV.com. Unfortunately, the closure was just the other shoe waiting to drop once the hours of operation were moved to weekends only.


2. Clemens has been reported (By the New York Daily News) to be involved with John Daly's ex. Judging from the last two women who have been linked to Clemens outside of his wife, it just proves the saying that Texans do like everything big.


3. (In the Larry King voice) Iron Man will break the record for biggest take in the first weekend in May - you heard it here first!


4. In another prediction, the Celts will win tonight by 8 points or more thus closing out the Hawks season.


5. Last night's Office was not one for the archives. It was meandering and directionless with one funny bit (Creed's response to Pam's vision issues). With only two more episode left in the season, the show needs to go out stronger than last night's one.

1. LeBron must be taking his King James moniker very seriously with this King of Pop-inspired wardrobe choice (photographic evidence shown above). Later in the post-game, Bron Bron stated that he had a certain fondness for the Home Alone series.


2. I hope that the judicial system will commute the rest of the sentence for that Detroit woman who's been on the run for 32 years. She's been married for 23 years with three kids so it should be safe to assume that she's a reformed citizen. And really, murders have gotten less time than what she did back in the day.


3. The cheesiest thing about the David Blaine breath holding stunt wasn't the fact that he did it on the Oprah show but the fact that when she asked Blaine what he was thinking when he was underwater, he plainly stated to her, "You." Uggh, all that Street Magic cred went down the drain right then.


4. Man, Iron Man must be setting records with the number of different tie-ins for one movie. The most recent one was for the LG cell phone that I caught was during Tuesday's episode of Deadliest Catch. The tie-in site (insidethesuit.com) has some decent online stuff as well as a contest to win a 16-carat gold phone so it's well worth the visit.


5. I might be the only one but the whole Anti-Venom character looks like a complete rip-off of the Reverse Flash and will be basically a one-off character.

4. Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher getting it in on during shooting for Episode 4 with Mark Hamill jealous of Ford's success? Who didn't see that one coming? But, also according to Fisher, there's no underwear in space according to Lucas. Really now?


5. There is no need for DC to make a one-off figure like Superman: Red/Superman: Blue. Especially with the crazy number of articulation points like that improbable mid-thigh one.
