Dark Knight back on the Viral Campaign

After making some changes to their decidedly viral marketing promotion due to Heath Ledger's passing, it appears that the Ad team who is running the Warner Brothers has decided to go for a different tact than the "Why Be So Serious?" one of late last year, according to SlashFilm. This new initiative has a a couple of vans tooling around the country in efforts to campaign Harvey Dent for District Attorney while having some Dent "protesters" with slogans like "Dent is Two-Faced", "Your Future Decided by a Coin Flip" and "Change We Can't Believe In!"; all phrases are in reference to the eventual turn of Dent to the double head coin-flipping villain Two-Face.
I am a real big fan of this type of viral advertising. My own brush with one was with the first X-Men film. FOX had mutant protesters outside Clinton's Re-Election celebration in downtown DC and had some cameramen take some footage of it for some sort of publicity. I tried to get closer and talk with the protesters but security wasn't having any of it. Totally bummer because I wanted to find out how to get involved with that stuff because it looked like a blast. Just like this one does. Man, to be young and willing to work for nothing...

Lego Batman Teaser Trailer

It's a new week with good stuff coming out tomorrow but here's something that has my appetite whetted for October 2008. It appears that the Dark Knight will receive the treatment that has only been afforded the Star Wars saga (and in the near future, the Indiana Jones franchise). Peep your eye at this video courtesy of Amazon.com.

2007 New Models #15 of 36 - 1966 TV Series Batmobile

I picked this baby up at a KB toys in Foley, AL for just under $1.50 and it was well worth it. Say what you will about the TV Series (and believe me, I have - the words "The Bat Batman" come to mind), the only cool thing on the show was the car. As the Chris O'Donnell version of Robin said, "Chicks dig the car." He ain't lying, folks.

Image of the Day for 08-20-07

Saw these fine pair of kicks on Kung Fu Rodeo and really brought back some memories of living in the Land of the Rising Sun. The link that KFR provided was all in Japanese and I wanted to know what it would take for me to secure one of these limited edition shoes. That was until I saw the price of these suckas (¥16,800, which equates to US $146.38). But I was still curious on how the shoes were pitched. So, thanks to our friends in the translation department at Google.com, here's the Japanese-to-English translation:

On the Horizon - Batman Anime and Wonder Woman Direct-to-DVD releases

Word has come out that the WB Animations Studios are possibly looking to step-up their games in order to compete with their competitors at Marvel and Dark Horse. It was recently leaked last week to the Internet (via Newsarama) that there might be two direct-to-DVD releases involving the Maid of Might and the Dark Knight in the very near future. Of course, as with all leaks, a "No Comment" was issued by Warner Brothers when asked to confirm these images. So, please take these images and associated pitches with a grain of salt:

BATMAN ANIME

Targeted Audience:
Dual (Core fans and tween boys)

Rating:
PG-13 (anticipated)

Release:
2-4 weeks in advance of The Dark Knight film release.

Overview:
Set in the period between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT, this brand new adventure follows BATMAN as he unravels a mystery over six original stories done in the style of Japanese Anime. Each of the six original stories has been written by a highly respected screenwriter or comic book creator. The talent includes Academy Award nominee Josh Olsen (The History of Violence), screenwriter of the Blade films and Batman Begins David Goyer, and famed comic book writer Brian Azzarello, among others.

The Batman Anime DVD is viewed as a perfect companion piece to BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT. The original stories introduce a number of classic characters from the DC Comics BATMAN universe as well as following up on characters and storylines that were introduced in BATMAN BEGINS.

WONDER WOMAN

On the mystical island of Themyscria, a proud and fierce warrior race of Amazons have raised a daughter of untold beauty, grace and strength – Princess Diana. When and army fighter pilot, Steve Trevor crash-lands on the island, the rebellious and headstrong Diana defies Amazonian law by accompanying Trevor back to civilization. Meanwhile, Ares (the god of War) has escaped his imprisonment at the hands of the Amazonians and has decided to exact his revenge using the mystical “Hand of Rage,” an ancient artifact with the power to raise armies from the dead and infuse them with a thirst for blood. Ares intends to start a world war that will not only last for centuries – but will wipe out every living being on the planet, starting with the Amazons! It is up to Princess Diana to save her people and the world – by using her gifts and becoming the ultimate Wonder Woman!

Wonder Woman stars in this next installment of the DC Universe series of original animated movies!

DVD street date: Q4 2008/Q1 2009

New Finds in Toyland

A new Target opened in my area which, of course, I had to check out. And no trip to Target is complete without making a run through the Toy area. So, while I was letting the kids run wild with their selections to viwe in the car, I found two expcetional finds; at least for me.

The first one was a Batman figure from the first wave of the DC Superfriends line (pictured below):

Obviously, by the look of them, these figures are similar in form and style to those Spider-Man and Friends pre-school characters that are all over the place. I posted a review of the figure on KFR.

The other item that piqued my interest was a 2005 Ford Mustang GT Die-Cas car with a DeWalt #17 repaint (pictured below):

Since the other NASCAR fans in the house like the #48 car and also I'm as curious as the Man in the Yellow Hat's little friend, I did a little (very little) searching on the web. Turns out that these 1 Badd Ride cars are exclusive to Target for a time and there could be others possibly in future waves. Here's what the board admin (quite possible an owner but could not verify at the time of posting) from the manufacturer of these cars (Professional Collectibles Ltd.):

Hi everyone,

Yes we are launching a new line of NASCAR 1 BADD RIDE diecast in 1:24 and 1:64 scale. You can find them currently in Target and soon to be in more retailers. The first series of 1:64 includes six drivers # 01 Mark Martin Army Vette, # 17 Matt Kenseth DeWALT Mustang, # 99 office Depot Carl Edwards Ford GT, # 26 Jamie Mcmurray IRWIN Ford GT, # 6 David Ragan AAA Mustang, # 16 Greg Biffle
Ameriquest 67' Shelby GT 500

1:24 NASCAR first series has # 01 Mark Martin Army Vette, # 17 Matt Kenseth DeWALT Mustang, # 99 office Depot Carl Edwards 67' Shelby GT 500. These cars came out looking great. We are excited to be working with NASCAR and look forward to being able to grow our business and bring all of you fans new vehicle castings in the future. Did you see the sneek peak of the new Challenger? Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Wade

Hopefully, that means a Jimmy Johnson repaint on a Corvette will be produced to the eager anticipation of fans everywhere, including my house.
